Comprehensive Security Tips

Use caution before answering online and email requests for your personal information. wewill never present you with unexpected web pages or send you unsolicited emails asking for your confidential information, such as your password, PIN, access code, credit card, account number, etc. We will never ask you to validate or restore your account access through unsolicited email. Do not respond to unsolicited emails or websites that request personal information. Report any suspicious requests to us immediately.

The potential consequences of any of these threats could include damage to your personal computer and compromise of your secret information.

For these reasons, we advise our customers to follow these practices:

1. Use anti-virus, anti-spyware and personal firewalls on your computer. Whenever you use your personal computer and the Internet, there is a potential risk of contracting a computer virus or the possibility of infiltration by intrusion software commonly known as "Trojan Horses". Computer viruses can modify programmes, delete files and erase the contents of hard drives. "Trojan Horses" can have similar effects and may be able to capture keystrokes, including passwords or other secret information. Spyware and other deceptive software can also conduct certain activities on your computer without your knowledge or consent.
2. Warning about 'free' services and software offering faster web surfing and email virus scanning: we strongly advise you to carefully read the terms of any free services you accept or software you download. They are known to sometimes include your consent to having access to all of your Internet browsing activities, including secure transactions monitored. In consenting to such terms, you may allow the service provider to collect highly personal information such as your bank account and credit card numbers and passwords.
3. Never open e-mails or download attachments from unknown senders. Simply delete such emails.
4. Use licensed software- Software purchased from untrustworthy sources could have virus or trojans that could corrupt your files and reveal your confidential data.
5. Ensure that you are using a legally licensed Operating system (OS). Enable automatic OS updates or download OS patch updates regularly to keep your OS patched against known vulnerabilities.
6. Download and use the latest version of your browser.
7. Disable File Sharing - File sharing is a feature of Windows that allows other computers to access your personal computer. Microsoft has provided instructions on how to disable file sharing in Windows Help (Click Start, Help, then choose the 'Index' tab and type "file sharing, disabling"). However, if you choose to retain this option for your particular environment, exercise due care and apply appropriate security measures.

1. Use encryption - Enable the highest level of encryption available for your router; newer wireless routers typically use Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) or above. This will encrypt all data transferred between your personal computer and wireless router. In addition, devices without your encryption key cannot connect to your wireless router.
2. Change your default password - All wireless routers are given a default administrator password by their manufacturers, so make sure to change this password to prevent unauthorised access to your wireless router.
3. Change SSID (Service Set Identifier) - The SSID is the name of your wireless network. You should change the manufacturer's default SSID name to a unique name that will not be easily guessed, and has no direct connection to you.
4. Switch off SSID broadcasting - You can further secure your network by disabling SSID broadcasting, which will hide your network from outsiders.

1. Change your Internet banking passwords frequently
2. Memorise your password. Don’t write down your password or PIN anywhere especially not on your card. If you suspect that someone knows your PIN/password, change it immediately.
3. Maintain different passwords for login and for transactions
4. Use password which does not contain part of your User ID or account number
5. Disable auto completion function to increase the security when you are accessing your account from a public computer
6. Don’t have your browser remember your card/account password
7. Don’t send your password or PIN to anyone via email or text message
8. Never save your username and password in any form when you are accessing your account using a public computer
9. Password complexity should be maintained and usage of simple passwords should be avoided

   3. Don't use sequences of letters or numbers E.g: abcd1234
   4. Don't use personal information like your name, date of birth, PAN number, etc.
   5. Do not use common words that can be found in a dictionary: Lion, password, bank
10. Don’t say your password or PIN aloud in public where other people can hear you

1. Observe click discipline while browsing through different websites. You may end up clicking a malicious link that could download malicious code/software or virus on to your computer
2. Avoid downloading software from non-trustworthy sites including torrent sites, which may lead to infecting your computer with a virus
3. Read the privacy policy of the website before entering personal information such as name and email ID. Be aware of how your information would be used by the website owner.
4. Avoid accessing internet banking from shared computer networks such as cyber cafes or public Wifi networks like hotel/airport etc.
5. Always visit the Bank's Net Banking site through our home page by typing the bank's website address on to the browser's address bar
6. Disable the "Auto Complete" feature on your browser
7. Do cross check your last login information available on NetBanking upon every login to ascertain your last login and to monitor any unauthorised logins
8. Check your account statements regularly and bring any fraudulent transaction to our notice
9. Monitor your transactions regularly. Use our Bank's "Alerts" service and bring any fraudulent transaction to our notice.
10. Do not click on links in emails or sites, other than www.bankfab.com to access your Net Banking webpage
11. Always type in your confidential account information. Do not copy and paste it.
12. Do not enter your confidential account information such as Credit Card Numbers, Expiry Date, CVV values, etc. on any pop-up windows
13. Always log out when you exit Net Banking. Do not directly close the browser.
